Stephen CLARK Obituary

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Stephen E. Clark, 66, of Hannibal, died Wednesday (April 28, 2010) at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Hannibal to George E. and Irene Heacock Clark. He was married Oct. 22, 1967, to Linda Northcutt, who survives. Steve graduated from Hannibal School in 1961 and from Hannibal LaGrange College in 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Benner, from 1965 to 1967. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and one bronze star for his service in the Navy. He was employed for the Missouri Department of Transportation in the Materials Department for 38 years, retiring in 2000. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting. He liked to garden and shared his produce with many friends. His hobby was woodworking and he had made many cherished items for his family. Steve enjoyed traveling, especially to California to visit his family. Steve was an active member of Park United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Ducks Unlimited. Steve was know as a very caring and generous person and often did for others before himself. He will be sadly missed by his family and his many, many friends. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Rowan Green and his two beloved grandchildren, Will and Katie Green, all of Newport Beach, Calif. He is also survived by his brother Dave Clark, of Everett, Wash.; and sisters, Gerry Higgins of Hannibal, and Sherrie Clark (Tom Sheelar) of Houston, Texas; his uncle, Charles Clark of Hannibal; an aunt, June Yates of Fort Dodge, Iowa; mother-in-law, Martha Northcutt and brother-in-law, Bill (Gloria) Northcutt, of rural New London; sister-in-law, Ferol (Tom) Hillebrenner, of Pittsfield, Ill; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that were very special to Steve. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a special uncle, James Clark, and his father-in-law, John Northcutt. SERVICES: 2 p.m. Monday in Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim Goodman and the the Rev. John Hayes conducting. Burial with full military honors conducted by Emmette J. Shield Post 55, the American Legion, will be at Grand View Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Greg Clark, Bryan Higgins, Tom Sheelar, Bill Northcutt, David Polc and Bill Trail. Honorary pallbearers will be, John Northcutt, Mark Northcutt, Tom Hillebrenner, Andy Babyak, Jack Riggs, Matt Matsunaga, Mark Riley, Jim Bastian and Ron Powell. VISITATION: 3 to 7 p.m. today in Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, Hannibal. MEMORIALS: Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 55 Veterans Assistance Fund or the Steve and Linda Clark Family Scholarship at Hannibal High School, both in care of Smith Fuenral Home and Chapel. ARRANGEMENTS: Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, Hannibal. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whig.com.
