Wilson Ramsey Obituary

PLEASANT HILL, Ill. -- Wilson Ernest "Ernie" Ramsey Jr., 64, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Bluffs, died Saturday morning (Jan. 15, 2011) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Pittsfield, a son of Wilson Ernest Sr. and Ica Ruth Helms Ramsey. He married Shirley Ann Dierking June 17, 1967, in Farmers Ridge Church of Christ. Shirley died Jan. 28, 1984.

Ernie graduated from high school in Fort Scott, Kan., and attended Lincoln Land College in Springfield, earning degrees in accounting and drafting.

Ernie was a longtime employee of Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and more recently was employed by Stark Brothers Nursery in Louisiana, Mo.

He had served as an EMT in Bluffs and Pleasant Hill and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Most importantly, he enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his granddaughter, Lindsey.

Ernie was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his father, Wilson E. Ramsey Sr. of Pearl; a son, Michael (wife Stacey) Ramsey of Pittsfield; a granddaughter, Lindsey Ramsey of Pittsfield; a brother, Rich (wife, Donna) Ramsey of rural Rockport; and several nieces and nephews, including Randi (husband, Dominic) Cattero of Quincy.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his mother, Ruth Ramsey; and an infant sister, Nancy Ann.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, conducted by Earnest Johnson. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery, Pleasant Hill.

VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Lummis Funeral Home.

MEMORIALS: Crescent Heights Cemetery Association or charity or organization of donor's choice.

ARRANGEMENTS: Lummis Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill.

I was very sorry to hear about Ernie. He was my next door neighbor for many years in Bluffs. Ernie always had a smile on his face and was a good neighbor.
