Dan Hickman, 78, of Wellston, Mich., a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 10, 2025, with his loving wife by his side and countless friends and family in his heart.
He was born on July 13, 1947, in Beebe, Ark. Dan moved to the Midwest at a young age where he was raised by his mother Geraldine and stepfather, Clem Hickman. Dan enlisted in the Marines shortly after graduating from Mendon High School in Michigan. He honorably served to protect this country during the Vietnam war but would be the last person asking for any praise for his service. Dan worked in the RV industry and the concrete business in Northern Indiana. Later, he moved to Wellston, Mich., where he owned and operated ABC Redi-Mix in Irons, Mich. Dan enjoyed anything with a motor and spent countless hours riding snowmobiles or his motorcycle even into his retirement years. Dan was a devoted Christian and a committed member of Faith Fellowship Church of Irons.
Dan deeply loved his wife, Nancy, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. His love extended to his family and friends, cherishing each relationship. Dan was known for his kindness, generosity and willingness to help others at the drop of a hat. He was a pillar of his community and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Dan never met a stranger, and to know Dan was to love Dan.
Dan is survived by his wife, Nancy (McWhorter) Hickman, and his sister, Margo (Kent) Kauffman of Middlebury, Ind. He is also survived by his five children: Buck (Marissa) Hickman of Allegan, Mich.; Cam Leitz of St. Joe, Mich.; Danielle (Ken) Merriman of Columbia City, Ind.; Sherrena (Sam) Beer of Leesburg, Ind.; and Heather (Lance) German of Leesburg, Ind. He was a cherished grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Kaytlin, Lucas, Ethan, Wyatt, Bryona, Abby, Brooklin, Hudson, Delaney and Waylon. Dan was excited to meet his newest granddaughter, Hope, who will be arriving in May 2026.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Horace Taylor; his stepfather, Clem Hickman; and his mother, Geraldine Berry.
A Celebration of Dan's Life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends when available.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Duane E. Dewey, AMVETS POST 1988, 1959 W. 24th Street, Baldwin, MI 49304 or Faith Fellowship Church, 8889 W. Six Mile Road, Irons, MI 49644.

Dearest Nancy and family. What a man! So very true, to know Dan you were truly blessed. He was a friend to all and always had time to talk. Ron and I have such dear memories from our Saturday morning breakfast that we always ended by having a good laugh together. We know we will all be together again someday as believers in Christ. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
