Dorothy J. Janek

Dorothy J. Janek of Bedford, died at her home on June 25, 2017. She was born in 1932 in Boston and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth (Soley) Foley. Mrs. Janek was a graduate of Arlington High School and attended Colby Junior College for 2 years. She was employed by Digital Corp. as a secretary until her retirement in 1993. She will be remembered by many as Bedfords first female umpire for Little League baseball. Mrs. Janek was also an avid sailor and enjoyed playing tennis at The Wedgewood Club in Bedford. She was predeceased by her daughter, Caroline in 2000. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, John S. Janek, two daughters, Susan Clark of Lowell and Jennifer Whitman and her husband, William of North Attleboro, her son, Steven Janek of Worcester, one sister, Ruth Ann DeSanctis of Winchester, grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth and Zachary Clark, Timothy and Jeffrey Whitman and Joshua, Nicole, Sarah and Ceili Janek, great grandchildren, Madison Landine and Dexter Janek and four nieces. Services were held at the Bedford Funeral Home on June 30.
