Rose Moniak Obituary

Rose Ann Moniak, of Littleton, Colorado, (formerly of Billerica, Mass.) passed away in peacefully on February 17, 2021, after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. She was the wife of the late Donald V. Moniak. Rose was born March 23, 1930 in Boston, MA. She was the youngest of seven children in the family of Natale and Josephine Coronella, originally from Sicily, Italy. She grew up in Bostons "West End." After graduation from high school, she went to nursing school and spent most of her 35-year nursing career at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Brighton, Mass. She brought the essence of nursing into her care and concern for the well-being of her family, friends, and acquaintances. Rose met Don in 1953 while living in Detroit, Michigan. They were married in Boston on April 24, 1954. They resided in Billerica, MA from 1964 to 1992. After all seven of their children graduated from Billerica Memorial High School, they relocated to Colorado to be closer to their daughters. And Roses love of children took her from St. Elizabeths maternity ward to Littletons Mortensen elementary School, where she worked as a teachers aide. Rose and Don were dedicated parishioners of St. Theresas Catholic Church in Billerica and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Littleton. Rose was a strong advocate for the Jefferson County victims assistance programs and served as a volunteer at Littleton Life Care Center. Rose is survived by her seven children: Steve Moniak, Cambridge, Mass., Rich Moniak, Juneau, Alaska, Jo Edmondson, Paonia, Colo., Don (Karen) Moniak, Aiken, S.C., Ginny (Tom) Bank, Boulder, Colo., Julie (Steve) Bunch, Berthoud, Colo., and Christine (Tom) Day, Boulder, Colo., 11 grandchildren (Michael, Ed, Tyber, Tracy, Jessie, Marisa, Mattias, Marcos, Autumn, Abby and Kevin), and one great-grandchild (Nathaniel). She is also survived by her sister Mary Lattanzi of Billerica, Mass., her late brothers wives: Gina Coronella (Victor), Phyllis Coronella (Joseph), Teresa Coronella (Salvatore) and Alice Coronella (John), and 17 nieces and nephews. Rose will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the children who thought of her as their adopted grandmother. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rose A. Moniak may be made to: Victim Outreach Incorporated, PO Box 18941, Golden, CO 80402, www.victimoutreach.org.

I am sitting with my mother Marlene Gillis reminiscing about Rose and the others from their St. E’s nursing class. My mom loved Rose. She can’t stop talking about what a wonderful friend she was. Marlene wishes the best for all the Moniak kids. Blessings to you all.
