Barbara Rosser Obituary

Barbara Bobby Rosser, 89, of Concord, MA, formerly of Cape Cod. Bobby was born and raised in New York city and attended DePauw University, majoring in music and voice. There she met her husband, artist Curtis Rosser. Married for over 50 years, they raised their four children in New York, Connecticut, Maryland and Massachusetts. As a teenager Bobby got the theater bug when she sang with actor Ezio Pinza in a NY canteen serving US servicemen and she appeared as an extra in a production of Petrouchka at the Metropolitan Opera. Over the next 65 years, Bobby appeared in 57 plays, musicals and light operas, founded a madrigal group, and served on the boards of numerous theater companies. She was nominated numerous times for outstanding achievement in acting by the Association for Community Theater Excellence and won as lead actress for her role as the Countess Aurelia in the Academy Playhouse of Orleans production of Dear World. In the many communities in which she lived, Bobby volunteered at the historical society and the council on aging, translated books into braille, taught music to young adults with developmental disabilities, served as president of the art guild, delivered meals on wheels, worked for a community newspaper and a local bookstore. Bobby studied shaker culture, furniture and basket making, taught basket classes and was a member of the Society of Cape Cod craftsmen. Curtis predeceased Barbara in 2005. She is survived by her children, Curtis Kip Rosser and his wife Pamela of Morrisville, PA, Bonnie Krims and her husband Peter of Concord, MA, Glen Rosser of East Windsor, CT, Penny Rosser of West Concord, MA, and her grandchildren, Zevan, Cody and Bryan Rosser, and Elise and Maxwell Krims. A private family remembrance will be held at a future date. Donations in Barbaras memory may be made to Cape Rep for theater education and outreach (web.ovationtix.com/trs/store/141/alldonations/14935). Arrangements are under the care of Charles W. Its been difficult to write about Bobbi because I always hoped to see her again. Bobbi was a dear and generous friend and such a luminous actress. She was kind, compassionate and oh so talented. I learned so much from her. I had the profound pleasure of directing her in Lettice and Lovage, Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein and The Executioner's Daughter on Cape Cod. Each role was unique and so layered. Bobbi was inventive and her characters were always nuanced because she was a true artist; creative and imaginative. I will hold dear, in my memory, our lunches with Julie Harris and Edward Gorey. Bobbi was a bright star and she will always shine in my heart.
My deepest condolences to her dear and loving family. May her memory always be a blessing.

What a perfect picture of Bobby on the announcement card of her death. Her vibrancy, alertness, expansive joy all captured, just as we remember her. We were so lucky to listen to her, over the 40 years we met in our Glastonbury Book Group. And listen we did: she could talk! And what she said was worth hearing. We learned from her, enjoyed her company and treasure our many years of friendship.

A person can accomplish so much in life and yet be remembered for the smallest little thing. Bobby had such a lively personality and had so many interesting pursuits, yet when I heard she had passed, one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind was that her holiday card would be missing from my mantle. As silly as this might seem, it was always the first holiday card I would receive and had come to symbolize the beginning of a new holiday season. Unfortunately I haven't talked with Bobby for several years now but if I had to guess, I would bet that even she felt the time had come to reunite with my old friend Curt. It makes me smile to think of what a nice reunion that would have been. My condolences go out to the extended Rosser family, she was a remarkable women and I am sure a wonderful mom.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the broken hearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1, 2) With heartfelt sympathy.
