Anne Zehnder Obituary

Anne Thacher Rogers Zehnder died June 9, 2017 in West Newton, MA. Born September 29, 1935 in Rochester, New York to Anne Day Thacher and the American composer Bernard Rogers. She attended the Beard School in Orange New Jersey before receiving a bachelor of fine arts majoring in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. Anne moved to Wellfleet in 1956, where she raised her family with her late husband, the modernist architect Charles C. Zehnder. She was a lifelong artist, painting or sketching the landscapes and people of the Outer Cape every day. The most important body of work of Anne's career was her paintings of the land and sea surrounding the family's home on the bluff at High Head in North Truro. Anne is survived by her sons Tony Zehnder, of Truro; Benjamin Zehnder, of Orleans; Charles Zehnder, of Harwich; her daughter Anne-Marie Zehnder Kott of Dover, MA and Truro; and her grandchildren Andrew and Anna Kott and Charlotte Zehnder. A private celebration of Anne's life will be held at High Head during the summer.
