Carol Grimes Obituary

Carol (Mansfield) Grimes, 72, wife of Lee Grimes, died Tuesday afternoon September 26, 2017 after a long illness. Born in Ipswich on October 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lillian (Deschene) Mansfield. Raised and educated in Ipswich, she was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1962. She and her husband, Lee, were married on January 21, 1967 in St. Josephs Church, now Our Lady of Hope Church, in Ipswich. After they were married, Carol and Lee moved to California to continue his graduate education. It was there that they spent many great years and their two children were born. In 1978, the Grimes family moved back to the North Shore and settled in Hamilton where Carol and Lee have resided ever since. Carol worked at Coastal Orthopedics for 35 years, and retired in 2010. Family was always her priority and she never missed the opportunity to support her children in their interests. She attended every one of her childrens games, even if she had to switch at half-time, or drive to another town to catch the last few minutes. Many will remember her voice booming from the sidelines as she cheered on many teams over the years. Carol loved to be surrounded by family and friends. There were often extra settings at the Thanksgiving table for friends who needed a place to go. She was always there to lend a hand, give a warm hug, or make a meal. She possessed a great sense of humor and the wonderful ability to laugh at herself. Carol enjoyed being outdoors, whether skiing, gardening, or taking walks on the beach. She especially loved spending time with her five grand-daughters. She loved them so much, and even to the end, they brought her such joy and a smile to her face. She will be truly missed. In addition to Lee, her husband of 50 years, Carol is survived by their 2 children: Craig Grimes, MD and his wife Margaret of Byfield, Holly Shepherd and her husband Chris of Hamilton. She is also survived by their 5 granddaughters : Madeleine, Audrey, Piper, Bailey and Coco. Also, Carol leaves her 2 sisters: Karen Mansfield and Virginia Trampe, both of Vermont, and many dear nieces and nep hews. Carol was also predeceased by her brother John G. Mansfield, formerly of Essex. A Celebration of Life for Carol will be held at a later date. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Carols name to: the Alzh eimers Association of Massachusetts, 309 Waverley Oaks Blvd. Waltham, MA 02452. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

We had love-in from the first time we met. Even though we didn't see each other often there was always lots of love and laughter when we were together. I wish she could have visited us in Florida. She will be missed.

To Lee, Holly and Craig:
I was so fortunate to have Carol as my friend. So wish I could come by and give you a hug. However, I moved to San Diego last week to be closer to my family. There are so many wonderful times that Carol and I shared. I will miss her so very much.
Love to you all,
Marilyn Linton
