John MacKenzie Obituary

John E. MacKenzie, 60, of Ipswich, passed away on October 10, 2019. John was born in Winchester, Mass. to John "Ding" MacKenzie and Barbara (Gallant) MacKenzie on August 15, 1959. During his childhood John and his parents lived in West Peabody, Mass., and he spent many happy summers with his family at North Hampton Beach, N.H. During his youth John worked at Lechmere, and thats where he met his wife Debbie. Debbie and John were married in August 1983, and due to a softball injury John came to their wedding with a broken leg. John and Debbie shared two wonderful children together, Marc and Krista. John was a hard worker, and he spent almost 40 years working at Delta Electronics. He started off as a shipper and receiver and over time worked his way up to become a production control manager. When not working, John was an avid sports fan. He loved playing golf, softball, and baseball, and was a coach for Babe Ruth baseball, Middle Essex Softball League, and AAU girls softball teams, the Wildcats and the Mass Inferno. He loved going to softball tournaments with the kids he coached and traveled when their tournaments took them down up and down the East Coast. Above all, John was a loving husband and father, and was incredibly dedicated to his kids. John is survived by: his wife Deborah A. MacKenzie; his son Marc MacKenzie and his wife Lauren; his daughter Krista MacKenzie; his sister Betty MacKenzie and her husband Jim Luckett; and his granddaughter Olivia. John is predeceased by his parents, John MacKenzie and Barbara MacKenzie. Visiting hours will be held on October 18, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal Street, Salem. I am so sorry hear of John’s passing. We grew up together in West Peabody and had many great times playing sports and just goofing around as all kids do. We had such great times. From playing baseball in the little field behind his house, to walking miles to Devil’s Dishfull pond to play hockey from sun up to sun down, to walking to Lynnfield High School to play tennis all day. We had hardly a dull moment and I cherish those memories.
My sincerest condolences to his family and my he continue playing ball for the rest of eternity.

Debbie and Krista,
I am so sorry to hear about John. We have fond memories of John traveling to watch Heather and Krista play Softball. John always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed watching Krista and was so proud of her. May he rest in eternal peace and all of your wonderful memories comfort you during this difficult time. Sending love and prayers to you and your family. Dave and Toni Ross

So sorry to hear that about John's unexpected passing. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers to the MacKenzie family. John was a terrific father and friend of mine for so many years. We played softball together on the 1986 Peabody Men's Softball Championship team [Aero Mfg] and later played on the Codgers team in the Reading Mens's Softball League [2009-2013]. We also coached youth softball together with the AAU Mass Wildcats and Mass Inferno teams tournament teams with our daughters, Michelle and Krista. The last time we coached together was at the Gloucester Women's Softball Tournament and won it in 2016. I will miss his humor and our talks about softball coaching strategies.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of playing baseball on the same team with John from Little League thru Senior Babe Ruth. He was a great guy, teammate and a better friend. We also played softball against each other for many years. he will be missed.

John and I became close friends when we were playing softball in the 80's. We became close enough to be in each other's weddings. He was a very special softball player and person. I was shocked to hear of his passing and will miss him.
