Virginia Soucy Obituary

Virginia D. (Poor) Soucy, 92, of Boxford, passed away peacefully at home on January 25th, 2021 with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles B. Soucy with whom she shared sixty years of marriage. Born in Lynn and raised in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Willard O. and Germaine D. (Leger) Poor. A graduate of Marblehead High School, Virginia "Ginny", continued her education at Colby Junior College in New London, New Hampshire. After completing her degree, she worked for a Boston legal firm and also for a social service agency before marriage. Virginia and Charles were married in 1951, settled in Salem and together raised their family. As her children grew, "Ginny" supported her husband's business and civic work and assisted in the family insurance agency including preparing income tax returns for clients. In 1967, the family moved to Wenham where her children grew to adulthood. "Ginny" kept several seasonal homes; winters would find her on New Hampshire and Vermont ski slopes and summers on Wingaersheek beach in Gloucester with a crowd of children and their friends always nearby. Upon her husband's retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling in Europe, Asia and throughout the United States and Canada. They golfed, skied in New England and in the Rockies and spent time with their grandchildren. Eventually they moved to Newport, VT., where they entertained friends and family at their home on Lake Memphremagog. Ginny's strength helped the family through sad times with the loss of her adult grandson, her beloved husband and recently her youngest daughter. In her final years, living on the North Shore where she was closest to family, Virginia connected with friends new and old. An avid reader, she loved sharing her favorite books and hearing about what others were reading. Her family, however, always came first in her life. She is survived by four of her five children: Deborah Lawton and her husband J. Kevin of Swansea, Charles Soucy and his wife Susan of Boxford, Paul Soucy and his wife Cynthia of Boxford, Joan Street and her husband Kevin of Essex and her sister, Betty Snow and her husband Donald of Melbourne, FL. She leaves nine loving grandchildren: Amy Lawton, Michael Soucy, Ellen Reece, Laura Soucy, Catherine Soucy, Andrew Soucy, Melissa Joseph, Joseph Merrill and Jacob Merrill. She also leaves three great-grandchildren: Owen, William and Susannah Reece as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Janet Soucy, her grandson Matthew Lawton and an infant child, David Soucy. Due to current pandemic restrictions, all funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice. Assisting her family with arrangements is the Levesque Funeral Home of Salem. For guestbook and to send a message of support to her family, please visit www.LevesqueFunerals.com
