Lillian Ketchum Obituary

Lillian F. Ketchum died at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, ME, on June 29, 2018, due to complications related to metastatic brain cancer. She was 74. A resident of Brunswick, Lillian and her husband resided in Cohasset, MA, for 25 years before moving to Maine in 2002. Lillian was born on January 16, 1944, in Plainfield, NJ, and spent her early years in Wilton, CT. She was the daughter of the late Joanne F. Fargo and Herbert H. Foster Jr. A graduate of the Northfield School in Northfield, MA, and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, Lillian earned a master's degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. In addition to numerous professional achievements during a 30-year career in journalism, she was an ardent gardener and bird lover, an avid reader, and had a deep appreciation for music. She enjoyed the outdoors, tennis and golf, and relished time spent at her familys home in Nantucket, MA, where she vacationed since early childhood. Lillian is survived by her husband, Bradford W. Ketchum Jr.; son Simeon R. Ketchum; stepson Bradford W. Ketchum III; stepdaughter Amy M. (Ketchum) Theriault; brother Herbert H. Foster III; sister Joanne F. Carlisle; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Grace F. Watkins. A memorial service celebrating Lillian's life will be held in Nantucket, MA, in September. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation (P.O. Box 13, Nantucket, MA 02554 https://www.nantucket conservation.org/ ).

I'm stricken to learn very belatedly, at the end of December, that Lillian had entered into rest. She was a wonderful person of sterling character and more achievements than she usually mentioned. My deepest sympathy to Brad, Simeon, and all of her extended family.

As class correspondent for Lillian's Northfield class of 1962,I have just learned of our dear classmate's passing on June 29, 2018. On behalf of our class, allow me to express our condolences to "Lily"'s husband and her large family. She was a natural leader and had great intellectuel curiosity even as a teenager and I see those qualities exemplified in her many impressive accomplishments. May our classmate "Lily" rest in peace and may you find the courage to continue your lives comforted by memories of the fine person she was.Louise Cole Nicollet [email protected]
