Sheila Zelaya
September 16, 2018
Hello, my name is Sheila Zelaya, first cousin of Arthur Grayzel. I am in the midst of planning a family reunion and came across this obituary. I am so very sorry to learn of this tragedy. Dave, I'm sure was named after his great-grandfather David. He was an astonishingly, gifted, talented and special young man.. It would have been an honor to have met him. Please, if you have the time, send me Arthur's e-mail. I want to reconnect with my family. I remember when Jonathan was born. All my love. Sheila Zelaya [email protected]

David and I have crossed paths during my 8th grade year at touchstone community school. It's funny how knowing someone for one year can have such an impact on your life. Not a single day goes by where I'm not reminded of Dave. We used to hang out drawing together and I always loved listening to his perspective on life and his outrageous sence of humor. The work that he created was incredible and I always loved being able to catch up and see what he was up to.
I've always admired Dave because when I met him he was a lot of the things I strived to be as a person. Thoughtful, creative, incredibly smart, and had an immense amount of self awareness. I remember him comming into a room yelling have no fear Barbarous Strican is here.
Back in 2016 I had the chance to see Dave once again when he went to Brown's summer program for, (I believe), creative writing. It's funny to say I was so exited to see him that I cried. But that's just the kind of man Dave is. He is someone who can brighten up a room with his witty commentaries and actions.
I unfortunately heard about Dave's passing right after his funeral while I was in Boston attending college. I decided to set out into Boston and go to this beautiful church near my school called Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Over there I lit a candle for Dave. I find what's beautiful is that in the distance, every six o' clock in the afternoon a church in the distance will play let there be peace on earth.
It might seem rather odd that I'm sending this so late in the year, however, I caught myself thinking about him today. Because if this I thought it was appropriate to share my condolences once again to the Grayzel family. Dave will forever live in our hearts and will never fail to serve as an inspiration for all of the incredible things he has done.

Julia, Jon and Conor,
I am sending light and love to you. The last time I saw David he was a toddler visiting my house in RI. I am reading about the bright, talented, kind and caring young man he grew into, and I am weeping for this loss. Please know many people are holding your family in their thoughts and sending love to you all.

I first met Dave at a summer camp when we were really young. Years later, our paths crossed again through soccer. I remember playing a lot with Dave and Connor before they moved. My thoughts and prayers are with the Grayzel Family.

I am heartbroken to hear this news. There are tears in my eyes as I am writing this, though I only played soccer Conner and Dave for a few years, they taught me so much. No amount of words will express how much they have touched my life. Rest in peace to a man gone way too soon.

I remember Mary picking you boys up at Touchstone in the afternoons. She was so proud of you both, and was so happy to follow your progress. She continues to see the two of you as very special individuals.

I am so saddened by the lost of your beloved David. When I saw he was a twin my heart broke even more for you and his brother Connor. Please watch over Connor even more. The bond between twins is usually pretty strong. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. You don't know me. I just saw David's beautiful face and had to read his orbit.

Dave - I remembering unloading your work from the kiln when you were in ceramics at CA and marveling at the beauty of your creations. I am grateful for the kindness and compassion you brought to CA, from the studio to the field to the classroom. You will be greatly missed.

David I can't believe you are gone. We met at EXPLO and although I never got the chance to connect with you outside of EXPLO you were a big influence on my life and I didn't even realize it until now. No one had to tell you to do the right thing, you did it. You taught me how to play wall ball and you welcomed me into your group of friends without any hesitation. It may have seemed insignificant to you but that small act made my entire summer. Those moments are by far my favorite things I have ever got the chance to experience. Thank you for showing me what it means to be a good person. Rest in peace.

I went to a summer camp with Dave and his brother. The two of them were amazing people to me and to the rest of the kids at explo. They were well liked, funny, popular and I will never forget them. Sometimes in school I would sit and wonder what they were doing, and I give my heart out to Davids best friend and brother Connor. I will never forget either of you and both of you changed my life for the better. Thank you so much for all the memories and for everything you did for me.
