Jeffrey Keast Obituary

Keast, Jeffrey David, died on May 1, following his battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Loftus) Keast and devoted father of Jeffrey C. Keast of Marlborough, MA, Christina Keast of Boston, MA and Phillip Keast of Dover, MA. Born in Cambridge, MA on October 13, 1956, he was the son of David and Estelle Keast of Carlisle, MA. Jeff grew up in southern California where he and his family went on many hiking trips in the High Sierras before moving to Carlisle in 1971. He was a 1974 graduate of Concord-Carlisle H.S. and received his BA degree in Physics and Psychology from Hobart College with independent studies in visual perception, psychophysics and motion pictures. Jeff received his M.S. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a Research Associate at the MIT Media Laboratory. He holds a patent on Digital Video Panoramic Image Capture and Display. Jeff was always up for an intellectual challenge whether it was in science, art, music or photography. He was quick-witted and always saw the humor in life's ironic circumstances. As an independent software consultant, he worked for many companies in the Boston area in the biomedical, financial and technology industries. He enjoyed being a consultant, researcher, designer, lecturer and most recently an instructor at Northeastern University College of Engineering. In addition to his wife, children and parents, he is survived by his brother, Craig and his wife Barb of Groton, MA; his sister, Diane and her husband Brad Nager of North Salem, NY; his brother, James and his wife Suzanne from Holliston, MA.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 21 at the MIT Chapel at 48 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambrige MA at 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Jeff's name to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Att: Development, 330 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 or online at www.gratefulnation.org/tribute.
