Robert Goodwin

1933 - 2016

Robert Goodwin, 83, of Lincoln and Harwich, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of Trudy (McInerney) Goodwin. Born in Norwood on March 29, 1933 he was the son of the late Wallace Francis Goodwin and Margaret Elizabeth (Costello) Goodwin. He attended Norwood public schools and graduated from Norwood High School in 1950. He received a BA degree in Education from Fitchburg State College in 1954. While at Fitchburg State, he was a member of the Soccer team that was elected in 2009 to the Fitchburg Hall of Fame. He received a Professional Certification in Engineering from Syracuse University in New York. He served in the U. S. Armys Ordinance Corps, Aberdeen, Maryland where he taught a course in radar. For 32 years, prior to his retirement in 1992 Mr. Goodwin was employed by Raytheon Corporation as an Engineer in the Missile Systems Division. Previously from 1958 to 1960, he was employed as an Engineer at General Electric Company in Syracuse, New York. A Lincoln resident since 1974, he was a member of the Finance Committee at St. Josephs Church in Lincoln and was an active as a volunteer for the Walden Woods Project. He spent his summers in Harwich, Cape Cod, MA and was appointed to the Harwich Water Quality Commission Task Force. Previously he lived in Acton, MA, Centerville, Ohio and Syracuse, New York. In addition to his wife, Trudy, he is survived by his children, Robert Goodwin II and his wife Susan of Templeton, Kathleen Dick and her husband Stewart of Westford, Peggy Goodwin of Lincoln, Thomas Goodwin and his wife Diahne of Westford and the late Susan Goodwin. He was most proud of his role as Pa to his grandchildren, Bobby, Katie, and Elizabeth Dick; and Lee Ayn, William and Dorothy Goodwin. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Goodwin. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 7th from 6 to 9 pm in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 8th at 12 noon in Holy Family Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. Concords town flag will be at half-staff on Saturday in recognition of Mr. Goodwins service to his country in the U.S. Army.
