A truly amazing man, and an inspiration to us all. I feel so very blessed to have known him, and to have worked on so many projects with him. He was not only brilliant, but so eager to share his ideas and keen insight with everyone. I learned so very much from him. Just being around him made you smile, and he took pleasure in sharing a joke, or a witty comment that made everyone laugh. He was just an all around terrific guy, and he will be sorely missed. Stacey and I send out our deepest condolences to Phyllis and the whole family.

Dear Mrs. Brick & Family, We were reflecting upon the loss of "The Donald "and the last time We enjoyed His company. It was when We all met at the BSO talking sharing stories and jokes. He was full of life and was in command of the table. A Mam of His benevolence and the way He lived His extraordinary life will be sorely missed by many. We will wish for wonderful memories that will warm and help heal your hearts. Our heartfelt condolences for your loss of the "The Donald".

I first met Don in 1967 when we both had offices on Marrett Road in Lexington. That day Don was applying the thinking of a noted mathematician named Norbert Wiener to a practical problem involving photons in pattern recognition (the paper he was reading was entitled "Wiener's Canonical Forms"). I had no idea of what he was doing but that didn't stop Don from exchanging a few jokes, a pun or two, and extending an invitation to come back whenever. Don loved company even when it involved someone with a lesser mind than his. Over the years we collaborated on a few business relationships, most of which didn't return a financial dividend but we had fun working together. Isn't that what life is about; enjoying it with a smile, a chuckle, and an honest laugh? That was Don, a true mensch.

Even though I knew Donald was having medical issues for the past several months, I find that I am surprised by how truly saddened I feel to learn of his passing this afternoon. He was one of the truly great men of our family, who served as an inspiration to me from an early age, when I thought I might become an engineer, like him. I continued to be awed by his intelligence, energy, and active involvement in the scientific community right up to his final days.
Most of all, Donald was the ultimate family man. Not just his immediate family, but the entire extended "Newman" family. He and Phyllis seemed to always show up at every wedding, bar and bat mitzvah, or any other occasion, with warm, sincere smiles, that made us all feel special. I fondly recall the Passover seders I spent with them at their beautiful home in Lexington, when I was in school in Boston.
I had intended to send Donald these thoughts for weeks now, while he was still with us, because I wanted him to know how far-reaching and memorable his influence has been. We should all be blessed with such a full and meaningful life as Donald's.

Phyllis and Don's great family...please know that the folks from HTS in both Israel and U.S. are going to miss Don dearly. Don was respected worldwide and it was truly a great honor for HTS to be associated with Don for so long. We are all deeply saddened by the news and holding tightly onto many fond memories of wonderful times spent with Don over the years...he was a remarkable man.

To all the Brick family members and especially Phyllis...you both joined the Seven Springs Reserve family with many of us. The sad part is we never really got to fully enjoy Don's friendship and wonderful personality. A special gem of a man handed down from God. He will be missed.

Donald as handsome and smiling as always. Donald was a family man, a fair man, an honest man, a hard worker, a humanitarian and an innovator. He loved what he did and did what he loved. He will be forever loved and cherished.
Phyllis ... our hearts go out to you and all the children. We love you all so much.
Many hugs,
Alese (& always Mort)

What a lovely photograph and moving obituary. It perfectly captured the spirit of this wonderful man. I cannot remember ever being in his presence and not smiling. He made the days brighter. He will be missed, however, he lived well and leaves a legacy of love and humor. We are all diminished by his loss, but his memory continues to enrich our lives. I know when I hear a joke, I will think of Don.
