Winslow Tower Obituary

Winslow Gilmore "Gil" Tower died February 13, 2013 in Media, PA. Gil was born at home in Lexington, to Winslow and Dorothy (Walsh) Tower. He took pride that his family line stretched back to the Revolutionary War era in Lexington and loved the annual re-creation of the Battle of Lexington Green. Gil attended Georgetown University, eaving the push lawn mowing of the familys property to his younger brother Jay - a fact that Jay reminded him of with a grin in his last days. Gil loved tennis and kept active with the sport until a year or so ago; Working in Washington on the 1950 census, Gil met a young Lebanese-American lady from Rhode Island who shared his passion for Gilbert and Sullivan and the Red Sox. Married on Thanksgiving Day, 1951, he and Norma Corey shared 61+ years together, singing through both good times and ad. Gil and Norma had two sons, Ken and Don, who were the focus of their lives until they began to share the spotlight with grandchildren Roger and Samantha. Gil loved playing bridge with friends, singing Christmas Carols and Gilbert and Sullivan and, especially in retirement, bringing life out of the ground as a Penn State certified Master Gardener A pioneer of the computer age, Gil trained as one of the first generation of programmers for the old, room-filling, Univac computers. Ironically, as computers got smaller and more powerful, Gil got less and less interested in them. Later, Gil worked as a management consultant. Gil is survived by his wife Norma, brother Jay (wife Bobbie) of Ashland, Ma, sons Ken (Rosana) of Titusville, NJ and Don of Park City, Utah, grandchildren Roger & Samantha, brother-in-law Carl Corey (Barbara) of West Roxbury, MA and many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Lexington Historical Society, P.O. Box 514, Lexington, MA 02420 or the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org
