John J. Russell

1924 - 2018

John J. Russell, age 94, passed away on October 29, 2018. He was the husband of Margaret Russell. They met and married in England while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and celebrated their 73rd anniversary this year. They traveled extensively after their child raising years to many adventurous and exotic places around the world. Happy summers were spent boating, fishing, clamming, swimming and gardening while in the fall, first class upland game bird hunting behind their faithful field dogs. Mr. Russell was External Financial Reports Manager with the NYNEX (now Verizon) at its Boston headquarters retiring in 1985 and was also a cranberry grower. He was a director of the Plymouth Savings Bank, now Eastern Bank through merger, and served as chairman of its Audit Committee, was for many past years a town meeting representative for the 4th Precinct, was active in scouting having served on the Old Colony Council Executive Board, was past president of the Mass. Striped Bass Assoc. and was a director of the Mass. Voice of Energy. Mr. Russell, a Mayflower descendent, son of Allen D. and Dorothy M. Russell, was born in Plymouth and was a graduate of the Plymouth High School Class of 1942. Besides his wife Margaret, he leaves their daughter Christine M. Anderson of Tampa, FL and two sons Peter J. Russell of Kaneohe, HI and David J. Russell of Eastham, MA, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his sister Marjorie "Mimi" Aldrich.
