Eric and I were close friends in junior high in Albuquerque and spent many days exploring the city and surrounding desert on our bikes. Great memories of a free youth. Our paths diverged in high school and when he came back to UNM we didn't know each other was there, although we must have overlapped for at least a year. Wish we'd reconnected and kept in connection. At some point we surely would have traveled together.

Ric and I traveled in different worlds but it seems our orbits kept bumping into each other. We first bumped together while serving on the same submarine in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. We were shipmates for several years. I was topside watch when Ric checked aboard for duty. Later our orbits bumped again at the University of New Mexico when we found we were both enrolled in similar classes. He and I and three others became roommates off campus for several years. Enough said about that. Later our orbits joined again when we both were engineers for the same company and were assigned to work on different projects but out of the same office at Gaithersburg, Maryland. By this time Ric had a beautiful wife and family.
What can I say about Ric. He served his country, he was smart, he worked hard, he was a good man.
I will miss you Ric.

Ric's love of life was contagious to those around him. We shared many laughs and memories in the 50 plus years since meeting him at the University of New Mexico. Knowing him was our great pleasure.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this most difficult time. Rick was my cousin and growing up I have so many fond memories of him and our families visiting together. I remember our trip to New Mexico on the train from Chicago and the wonderful time we had seeing Albuquerque. Rick took me on a ride on his motorcycle and I remember how much fun it was. My family has always enjoyed receiving our Christmas cards and letter from the Steinig family to see what they had been doing and places they had been all year long. He truly has had an adventurous life. I look forward to getting his autobiography to I can experience some of his adventures. He will always remain in a special place in my heart.
