Ruth Caldwell Obituary

Ruth E. (Smith) Caldwell, 87, of Rockland died at her home on Dec.16, 2010 after a period of failing health. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Deacon) Smith and was raised and educated in Braintree. She had made her home in Rockland for the past 38 years. Mrs. Caldwell was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Rockland and was a member of several women's groups at the church. She was also an avid reader. Ruth retired in 1991 from the John Hancock Co. in Braintree where she had been employed for many years as a claims processor. Wife of the late Harry W. Caldwell; she is survived by her son, Bruce A. Caldwell and his wife Diane of Attleboro and two grandsons Chad and Evan Caldwell. She was also the sister of Barbara Batchelder of CO, Donald Smith of Rockland and the late Richard Smith and Thelma Harrington. The family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate Ruth's life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service was celebrated in the First Congregational Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Burial followed in North Weymouth Cemetery.
