I will forever be so thankful for the wonderful and amazing guidance I received from Jim since I was a 16 year old kid working on my car in the Depot Hobby shop. He was the best of the best and a true leader who encourage me to join the army and mentored me throughout the years. I will forever be thankful!!!

To the Whitehurst family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Mr. Whitehurst was an inspiration to many of us at the Sacrament Army Depot. He also attended many reunion functions in the past 20 years, and I have several pictures of him. He was a very honorable and humble man.

Sgt,Maj Whitehurst was one of the best soldiers that I ever knew. Jim and I served in the Army together and stayed in touch after both of us retired from the Army. Sergeantmajor Whitehurst has many friends in the Army still living in the Sacramento area. We will all miss The Sergeantmajor, however I am sure that Jim is going to be happy in his new assignment, First Infantry Division. So long old soldier. We will miss you.

To the Whitehurst family, May God bless and watch over you in your time of sorrow.
I knew "Jim" from our time at the Sacramento Army Depot, where he monitored our contract. He was tough, but fair and I came to respect him and consider him a friend. He also had a great sense of humor and I thought of him often over the years.
His love of family showed often and I'm sure he is watching over you all.
