Martha Beck Obituary

Martha (Spenle) Beck WAYLAND Martha (Spenle) Beck, 100, of Wayland passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 20, 2010 at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness. She was the daughter of Martha (Walker) Spenle and Johann Spenle of Neu Ulm, Germany. She arrived in the United States in 1924, lived in New York City with her aunts, and was employed in the household of a family on Fifth Avenue. She also waitressed at the Ritz-Carlton prior to marrying Paul Heppner. She eventually moved to Florida after being married a second time to Bruno Beck. She volunteered with several charities while enjoying the sunshine. Most recently she resided at Traditions of Wayland where she enjoyed many wonderful friendships. Very dedicated to her family, Martha shared her experiences and hobbies, particularly her passion for cooking, sewing and fashion, with three generations. She passed hundreds of recipes on to her daughter-in-law and always baked many boxes of cookies for Christmas. She introduced the family to Stollen, a German fruit bread, which has become a holiday tradition and family staple. Martha is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Heppner of Wayland; grandchildren Paul O.G. Heppner Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Marlton, N.J., Peter E. Heppner and his wife, Laura, of Mansfield, Marianne Bunch and her husband, Tim, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Kathryn E. H. Trogolo and her husband, Mike, of Mansfield. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Joshua Heppner, Edward Heppner, Margaret Trogolo, Kate Heppner and Brian Feeley. She was the mother of the late Paul O.G. Heppner Sr. of Wayland. Private funeral services and interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland were held for her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Parmenter VNA, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Wayland (www.jcbryantfuneralhome .com).
