Christopher Grimes Obituary

Christopher Stephen Grimes III, of Stowe, VT, age 8, passed away while in the arms of his loving parents on September 5, 2013 after a valiant four year long battle with Neuroblastoma cancer. Christopher was born in Burlington on July 27, 2005, the son of Kristin McCobb Grimes and Christopher Stephen Grimes, Jr. owners of the Stowehof Inn in Stowe. Christopher was the Grimes first born child and is the big brother to Gillian (age 5) and Daniel Grimes (age 4). Christopher attended Stowe schools and was an enthusiastic skier at Stowe Mountain and remained a cheerful, active boy throughout the trials of cancer. He also loved to swim, play tennis and had a particular fondness of rockets and fireworks. Christophers big blue eyes and freckled face could always make people smile. He loved to tell jokes and play with his many friends. He also had a gentle and compassionate side and would be eager to help others. Christopher is survived by his parents Christopher Jr (CJ) and Kristin, his sister, Gillian Brett Grimes and his brother, Daniel Pierce Grimes, his maternal grandmother, Peg McCobb "Nannie" of Weymouth, MA, and his paternal grandparents, Susan and Christopher Grimes Sr. "Oma and Opa" of Stowe, as well as many doting aunts, uncles and cousins. Christopher leaves behind so many friends and classmates who could not have been more supportive of their buddy. The Grimes family will never forget when some of his friends shaved their heads in solidarity to show that Bald is Cool. Christopher was embraced by a very generous and warm community who actively supported his family's fund-raising events for pediatric cancer research as well as "Christopher's Flock" of pink flamingos. A funeral mass was held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Stowe on September 9, 2013 at 11am. A private burial took place at the family's plot in Bridport, VT. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 26 at noon at St. Jeromes Church in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the NMTRC at the Helen De Vos Childrens Hospital as the doctors and researchers there are working to find a cure for Neuroblastoma. 8 years is too short of a life, but there is still time and hope for other families. Donations can be made online at through the secure website of this summers 4th annual fundraiser for the NMTRC. Checks can be made out to Helen De Vos Childrens Hospital | NB Fund and mailed to Peg McCobb, 75 Rinaldo Road, Weymouth, MA 02191
