Alma Mitchell

1944 - 2025

Alma Frances Mitchell (Champion), 80, of Albion, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Aug. 29, 2025, in Jackson, Michigan. Alma was born on Oct. 27, 1944, in Decherd, Tennessee to Ernest and Frances Champion, one of 15 children. She has accomplished many things throughout her time here on earth.
Alma was married to Floyd Mitchell, with whom they resided in Albion, Michigan for many years. As you may not know, Alma and Floyd passed away on the same day (Aug. 29), just 22 years apart. Together they owned a cleaning company called "Mitchell's Janitorial Service". Alma was also a supervisor at A.I.M. (Albion Interfaith Ministries) where she helped serve food and clothing.
Alma was known as Missionary Mother Mitchell, alongside her husband, Minister Floyd Mitchell, at Grace Temple Church of God in Christ in Albion for 50 years.
Alma was particularly passionate about her family's knowledge of the Lord. In addition, she dedicated much of her time to her church family (Grace Temple).
Alma was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend of many whom she cherished spending time with.
Alma is survived by her children, Lawson Nolen Bright, Maurice Bright, Kanae (Dre) Johnson, Lawson Nolen Bright-Mitchell, and Cyn-Tonio Bright-Mitchell; and her stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many more. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Alma will be remembered for her smile, kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness, sympathy, memorable moments & significant impacts on the lives of others. Her memory leaves behind a lasting legacy of love that she instilled in each one of us.
Alma's warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service in Battle Creek on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, from 6-8 p.m.
A celebration of Alma's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Grace Temple COGIC in Albion, Michigan, family hour will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by the celebration of life at 11:30 a.m..
Food will be prepared at the Ismon House of Albion, following the interment at Albion Memory Gardens.
