Philip Reinoehl Obituary

Dr. Philip Graydon Reinoehl, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 30, 2025. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and doctor. He was born on Oct. 30, 1940, the son of Richard Reinoehl and Josephine (Burger) Reinoehl in South Bend, IN.
He was a proud alumnus of Old Riley High School and went on to attend Manchester College for his undergrad. He continued his education at the Indiana University School of Medicine where he obtained his PhD. He then completed his internship at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI.
On June 8, 1968, Grady married the love of his life, Cheryl Schelb. After three months of marriage, they moved to India where they participated in missionary work and where they welcomed their first child, Tim. Two years later, they moved back to Michigan. Upon their return, he was called to Paw Paw to join the medical practice with Dr. Millard. After decades of service to his community and serving as the medical examiner for Van Buren County, he retired at age 70.
Grady had several passions besides being a great doctor. He loved birds and butterflies and spent his free time visiting butterfly conservatories and watching the birds while camping and traveling. A frequent destination was Mackinac Island. Grady also cherished his acreage in Paw Paw. Over the years, he planted thousands of trees on his property. He also kept vegetable and flower gardens.
The Civil War was of great interest to Grady, and he was a passionate historian and researcher, he never stopped learning. He took many trips to visit historical Civil War sites. His style also made him stand out at events. Grady always had on a bow tie and kept an extensive collection, one (or multiple) for each occasion! Music was also a big part of his life. He loved to sing, spending many years in the Paw Paw United Methodist Church Choir as well as in the Paw Paw Community Choir. He also loved to play instruments and had a remarkable talent for playing a variety of them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Reinoehl; son, Timothy (Kseniya) Reinoehl; daughters, Wendy (Dennis) Van Tassell and Sarah (Martin) Reinoehl-Tuttle; grandchildren, Miranda Owens, Emily (Michael) Davis, Gabriel Reinoehl, Larissa Reinoehl, Jonathan Reinoehl, Alexis Van Tassell, Chloe Van Tassell and Jacob Van Tassell; brother, C. Truman (Retta) Reinoehl, and sister, Sharon (late Harry) Hensley.
Grady was preceded in death by his parents.
His service, kind soul and caring heart will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and all who had the opportunity to be taken care of by Dr. Reinoehl.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Paw Paw United Methodist Church, 420 W. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. with Pastor Dan Phillips officiating.
