Timothy Hugh Wing, 78, of Ottertail Lake, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Battle Lake on June 28, 2024 with his sister by his side.
Tim was the second child of Hugh and Lucille Wing's four children (Kathryn, Timothy, Lizabeth, and Marcus). Tim spent his early years in Breckenridge, MN where Hugh ran a car dealership. At the young age of four, Tim made the newspaper after he was intercepted at the city limits on his tricycle heading for his grandpa's farm in Christine, ND. This was only the beginning of his adventurous life.
During his teenage years, the family moved to Fergus Falls where Lucy taught music. Tim spent this time doing work at the Stock family farm, playing cards, and getting into mischief.
After one year of college, Tim joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Enterprise, an aircraft carrier ship. His time in the service took him to many places including Vietnam and the Mediterranean. He became a proficient firefighter and helped to counsel others in AA after his own struggles to overcome addiction. Tim's quick actions and firefighting skills even helped save the family lake house on Christmas eve in 1980.
Tim retired from the Navy, while living in San Diego, CA. It was here that he met and married his ex-wife, Carolyn Juarez, gaining a son, Chris Juarez. After retirement, he began working with students in special education. He also indulged his love for motor vehicles and began collecting and repairing cars, trucks, planes, and ATVs. He eventually sold his home in San Diego and bought a home near San Felipe, Mexico. Tim spent his winters in Mexico and his summers at Ottertail Lake.
For the last three years of his life, Tim was at Good Samaritan, Battle Lake, MN. The wonderful staff there and the Knute Nelson hospice workers helped ease his symptoms from pancreatic cancer. Luckily Tim did not manage to chase them all away with his often raspy and belligerent behavior, and many remember his teasing and charm with fondness.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Hugh; mother, Lucille; sister, Lizabeth; and brother, Marcus. He is survived by his dog Whiz; stepson, Chris (Elva); grandgirls, Sofia, Isa, & Ava; sister, Kathryn; niece, Freya (Mike); grandnieces, KitRyn and Miya; nephew, Christopher (Jenny); and grandnephew, Topher.
A family graveside service will be held at his request.
