David Franco Obituary

David Francis Franco
December 14, 1942- November 24, 2024
David Francis Franco was born on December 14, 1942 to Paul and Janet Franco in St. Louis, Missouri, the third of four children. After graduation from Wilton High School, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. He went on to Ripon College where he studied English and journalism. He was a lifelong resident of Wilton, Connecticut. David passed away on November 24th, 2024, at home, in Florida. After graduation from college, he traveled around the country in his Volkswagen van. He joined the Peace Corps, taking a station in Colombia, South America and became fluent in Spanish. He was passionate about the charitable organization Sister Cities International and worked to help those less fortunate in Central America. In one epic trip, he drove an ambulance filled with medical supplies from Connecticut to Guatemala. David worked as the Human Rights Commissioner in Stamford, Connecticut in the 1980s and retired from Smith House where he worked in therapeutic recreation, bringing his compassion, kindness, and humor to the frail elderly. David lived an adventurous life and was a worldwide traveler. Meeting new people and experiencing new cultures was a love that lasted his entire life. He had a deep love of the arts, especially music and theater, reading, and politics. He loved quality, rare steak and good whiskey. He was a man of simple pleasures, valuing experiences in life more than things, albeit with a weak spot for unique antiques! He loved his family very much. David is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Alexandra; stepchildren Carly and Christian; sisters Barbara and Jeanne; five grandchildren, William, Elliott, Molly, Hallie, Isla, and many nieces and nephews. His funeral with military honors will be held on May 10, 2025 at Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut at 11 o'clock in the morning.

David was a kind soul who loved sharing what he knew about life with others..he will be missed at family gatherings where he often spoke Italian with my father over a glass of homemade wine. Salute!
