Darrell Lumpkin Obituary

Darrell E. Lumpkin, 74, of Modoc went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born October 4, 1947 in Wayne County, Indiana, a son of Ray and LaVora (Rhinehart) Lumpkin.
He was a life-long resident of Randolph County. Darrell was a 1965 graduate of Union High School and a 1970 graduate of Purdue University. He served for over 2 years in the Peace Corps, serving in Brazil. Darrell was a lifelong farmer and a fan of John Deere equipment. He enjoyed working at TOA in Winchester, where he worked in waste water management. He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church. He had a passion for missions and served on many mission teams, once traveling to North Carolina with his brother, Lowell, to help with hurricane damage. He had several hobbies including operating Ham Radios, collecting Commadore Computers and working with electronics. He was a member of Randolph County Amature Radio Club and a 10-year member of 4-H.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sandi Lumpkin; children, Eric (Katy) Lumpkin and Emily (Dave) Hines; granddaughter, Petra Hines; mother, LaVora Lumpkin; two brothers, Ernest Lumpkin and Everett (Cindy) Lumpkin; and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
In addition to his father, Ray Lumpkin, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Lumpkin; and a sister-in-law, Dee Lumpkin.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Little Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, face coverings are required. Memorial contributions may be given to the Peace Corps, Office of Gifts and Grants Management, 1275 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20526 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 104, Winchester, IN 47394.
