Edward Enghaus Obituary

Edward Enghaus, 89, of Modoc, passed away early Sunday morning, January 15, 2012 in Winchester.
He was born April 19, 1922 in Richmond to Charles and Dorthea (Bond) Enghaus. After losing his parents at a very early age, he was raised by his Foster parents, Ralph and Theodosia Moore of Huntsville. He was a 1941 graduate of Huntsville High School.
Ed honorably served as a veteran of the US Army Air Corp. during W.W. II. He was overseas from 1943-44, serving with the 455 Bomb Group, 742nd Bomb Squadron known as the Vulgar Vultures. He flew 50 missions, mainly over the Polesti Oil Fields and major railroad connections in Germany.
Edward was a lifelong farmer near Huntsville and sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 38 years. He believed that conservation of the land was very important and received the Randolph County Master Farmer Award in 1992. Ed enjoyed his family and reminiscing with friends who visited him. One of his pastimes was playing cards with friends and family. Ed bought the Huntsville Community Building in 2002 and helped make it a viable facility for family reunions, showers and many other community activities.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Kathy Beumer (husband, Greg) of Modoc; a daughter-in-law, Winifred Enghaus (Ed Akin) of Fishers; a sister, Marie Baker of Decatur; six grandchildren, Bradley Enghaus (Penny) of Seattle, Wash., Kerry Beatty (Scott) of Winchester, Heather Kenison (Matt) of Carmel, Brad Beumer (Kellie) of Sydney, Australia, Suzannah White (Braulio Fernandez) of Chicago, Ill., and Alison Beumer (Andrew Noga) of Indianapolis; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marceil Enghaus, Ruth Adamson, Jean Grounds (Carl) and Joyce Thornburg; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Beth McMillan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents; his wife, Juanita Enghaus; a son, Edward Enghaus, Jr.; two brothers, Charles Enghaus and John Dill; and two brothers-in-law, James Adamson and Max Adamson.
A service to celebrate Edward’s life is 10 a.m. Thursday at Thomas Memorial Chapel, Lynn, with Dr. Alison Syme officiating. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery, Unionport. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wilsonshookfuneralhomes.com.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntsville Community Center, c/o Penny Martin, 7508 S. Huntsville Road, Modoc, IN 47358. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
