RAEFORD - Mrs. Aline McPhaul Wright of 308 W. Central Ave. in Raeford died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst at the age of 88. Mrs. Wright was born in the Antioch community to the late Fletcher Franklin and Mary Thrower McPhaul. She attended Flora MacDonald College until her marriage. Mrs. Wright owned and operated Raeford Super Market for many years. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was a member of Bethel Church from the time of her marriage. She was honored with a lifetime membership in the Women of the Church where she served as an Elder and Clerk of the Session, Sunday-school teacher, Circle chairwoman and Bible moderator. Mrs. Wright frequently provided floral altar arrangements, which she made from her own garden. As long as her health permitted, Mrs. Wright was a mainstay in the planning, preparing, serving, and cleaning up for Bethel's traditional in-gathering on the first Thursday of each November - one of the commitments she has passed on to her children. She was a member of Raeford Garden Club and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her favorite roles were wife, mother, aunt, neighbor and "Me-Me" to her grandchildren. She will be remembered for the sharing of her bountiful meals and warm hospitality, both always served with a big helping of happy laughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Julian H. Wright, in 2001; and earlier by her two brothers, F.C. McPhaul of Antioch and J.W. McPhaul of Raeford. She is survived by four sons, J. Hugh and wife Caroline Atkinson Wright of Winston-Salem, Robert A. and wife Shirley Johnson Wright of Raeford, W. Fletcher and wife Anne Shankle Wright of Charlotte and Thomas F. Wright of Raeford; a sister, Sarah M McNeill, of Raeford; eight grandchildren, Robert A. Wright Jr. and wife Frances, Dana Holt, William J. Wright, John S. Wright, Thomas F. Wright Jr and wife Vanessa and Lynn W. Thorne and husband Robbie, all of Raeford, and Mary O'Neale Mattiacci and husband Joe, Julian H. Wright Jr. and wife Amy and Richard S. Wright, all of Charlotte; her great-grand-children, Christopher, Corinne, Chloe and Colton Wright, Caleb and Corbin Thorne, Jody Mattiacci, Elizabeth and Cora Wright, and Julian Hugh Wright III; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Sanders Read, Ladd Brearley and Frank Neil officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave., in Raeford. Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, c/o Mr. Homer Tuttle, P.O. Box 374, Raeford, NC 28376. Crumpler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrange-ments.
