Ann Hemrick, 93, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Falling Creek Assisted Living in Hickory, N.C. Ann was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., to David R. Cook, Sr. and Jency Bauguess Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Hemrick; as well as her brothers and sisters: Bettie Cook Maddrey, Ruby Cook Pulliam, Raymond E. Cook, Ruby Cook Miller, David R. Cook Jr., Helen Cook Coleman, and Ruth Cook Jackson. Ann is survived by her daughters: Pam Hemrick Prevatte (John) of Hickory, N.C., Karen Hemrick Damsel (Philippe) of Hudson, Fla., and Janice Hemrick Meeks (Mike) of Forest City, N.C. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Jonathan Prevatte (Joy) of Newton, N.C., and Crystal Meeks of Forest City, N.C. Great-grandchildren include Savannah Prevatte, Paige Prevatte, Cy Prevatte of Newton, N.C. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, and a very special relative and family that she met before her death. Ann graduated from Gray High School in 1951. She began work at Dewey's Bakery. After her daughters were born, she worked at Farmers Dairy Bar as a waitress. She went back to school and earned an associate degree in accounting. She worked at Bowman Gray School of Medicine for several years. She later went to work at Taylor Oil Company. She remained there until she retired. She spent her retirement serving Pine Chapel Moravian Church, the church she loved and was a member of for 77 years. She sang in the choir for many years, and she volunteered at Sunnyside Ministries for 20 years. She served two terms on the Provincial Women's Board of the Southern Province of the Moravian Church, and she worked with Senior Friends of the Moravian Church. Her favorite hobby was taking painting classes and creating canvases of landscapes and historical scenes. Many thanks to all the family and special friends who visited and sent cards to Ann. She loved you all and saved her cards to look at many times. A huge thank you to Brookdale Falling Creek Assisted Living in Hickory. The staff took excellent care of her and provided tremendous support to the family. Also, thanks to Carolina Caring of Newton, N.C., and Geraldine's Care. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2025, at Pine Chapel Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. Burial will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
