Arlis Ray Poindexter, 66, of Clemmons, N.C., passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Arlis was born on October 29, 1956 to J.R. and Juanita Poindexter in Winston-Salem. He grew up in Southfork and Advance and attended West Forsyth High School. Arlis graduated from Forsyth Tech in 1977 with a degree in Business Administration and worked at Poindexter Lumber Company. Arlis met Diane Schrock and the two were married at Tanglewood Chapel on May 24th, 1985. Arlis and Diane were married for 37 years until his passing. They have two children, Dan and Julie, as well as a granddaughter, Molly. Arlis was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family. He was especially involved in Julie and Dan's sports careers, committing many weekends to coaching and attending games and otherwise supporting their basketball, softball, and baseball teams. Arlis was a competitive golfer and a longtime member at Grandview Golf Course and Reynolds Park. He spent many good hours on the course with his close friends Sath Simmons, Keith Hamby, and Clayton Peele, and always looked forward to their annual beach golf trips. Arlis was a dedicated Boston Red Sox fan and could often be found in the evenings watching Sox games on TV. He was an avid fan of 60's and 70's rock music, especially the Beatles, and his expansive knowledge of the genre was matched only by his sizable album collection. Arlis enjoyed the outdoors, landscaping, and vegetable gardening, and was known in later years for his prodigious tomato harvests. Arlis is preceded in death by his father, J.R. Poindexter, and his mother, Juanita Poindexter. He is survived by his wife, Diane; his brother, Joe; his sister, Susan; his children, Julie and Dan; and his granddaughter, Molly. Arlis's family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Homestead Hills Assisted Living Facility in Winston-Salem, who provided Arlis with excellent care in his final years. They would also like to thank Arlis's good friend Paul Mullen, who provided comfort and companionship to Arlis and will preside over his funeral services. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hayworth - Miller Kinderton Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 27th, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, N.C.
