Mr. Forrest Sink Ryan, 77, died suddenly Thursday, July 28, 2005, at his home. He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Forsyth County to Robert Calvin Sr. and Ruth Sink Ryan. Mr. Ryan was an active member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church where he served on many committees. He was a member of the Motsinger Bible Class, the Methodist Men and treasurer of the George and Hill Scholarship Funds. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class. He was a member of Valiant Air Command of Titusville, Fla., and attended various air shows around the country. He retired from AT&T after 40 years service; 35 of those years with perfect attendance. He loved flower and vegetable gardening. During the Christmas season, his house and lawns were displayed with beautiful lighted Christmas scenes for children as well as adults to enjoy. Mr. Ryan was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Colleen Black Ryan; two sisters, Eleanor Kimel and Blake West; and two brothers, George Howard Ryan and R.C. Ryan Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Stiller, of Winston-Salem; two sons, Benny Neil Ryan of Winston-Salem and Forrest Darrell Ryan and wife, Valerie, of Pasadena, Md.; three grandchildren, Brandon Neil Ryan, Samantha Starr Ryan and Justin Ryan Stiller; two stepgrandchildren, Joshua Austin Grahe and Justin Wesley Grahe; two sisters, Helen Gray West of Winston-Salem and Katherine Hunter of Louisburg, W.Va.; a brother, Wayne Ryan, of Winston-Salem; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, with Dr. Joe Collins and the Rev. Ken Eller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, July 30, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Building Fund, or the George or Hill Scholarship Funds, 4265 Ebert St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
