KERNERSVILLE - Mr. George Harriss Bellamy III died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was 74. He was born in Kernersville on Oct. 22, 1928, a son of George Harriss Bellamy Jr. and Iona Morton Bellamy. He was a descendant of Joseph Kerner, founder of Kernersville. A graduate of Guilford College, Mr. Bellamy lived for 30 years in New York City, spending his career there as a banker, eventually becoming a vice president of Chemical Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank. He interrupted his career to serve in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. After returning to live in Kernersville, he was a stockbroker with Independence Securities in Greensboro and Cape Securities in Jacksonville. He was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Bellamy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Morton Bellamy. Surviving are his sisters, Kathryn Bellamy Keys of Washington and Louise Bellamy Edwards of Kernersville; a niece, Kay Keys Pinnix and husband Joseph Leak Pinnix Jr. of Kernersville; nephews, Robert Cecil Keys III and wife Julie of Goldsboro and William Charles Edwards Jr. of Kernersville; four great-nephews, Joseph Leak Pinnix III and wife Ashley of Cary, Robert Bellamy Pinnix of San Francisco, Calif., Robert Cecil Keys IV and Chad Smith of Goldsboro and great-niece, Ashley Smith of Goldsboro; great-great-nephew, Joseph Leak Pinnix IV and great-great-niece, Ashley Bellamy Pinnix, both of Cary; cousins, Martha Morton Sapp Farrington of Kernersville and Carolyn Bellamy Mallison of Washington. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville by the Rev. Donald P. Goodheart, rector of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem, and Dr. J. Alexander Ward, pastor of Main Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Louise B. Edwards, 201 S. Cherry Street in Kernersville and at Main Street United Methodist Church immediately following the service. Memorials may be directed to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 520 Summit Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
