Herman Stamper Obituary

STAMPER GALAX, VA - Herman Andrew Stamper, 74, of Galax, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at his home. He was born March 22, 1935 in Alleghany County, North Carolina to Basil & Hazel Royal Stamper. Surviving him is his devoted and loving wife, Linda W. Stamper. He attended Snow Hill Baptist and was a Mason and Shriner, with a love for helping children. He was a well-respected building contractor for 45 years. After retiring from building, he became a real estate agent working with United Country Foxfire Realty for 6 years. Also surviving him are his children, Mary Jane Carico, husband, Mike and grandson, David; son, David Stamper & wife, Kim; son, Gary Stamper, all of Galax; step-sons, Troy D. Searcy II, wife, Dawn and step-granddaughter, Haley Dawn Searcy, and step-son, John Clinton Searcy & wife, Marina and step-grandson, Jake Alexander Searcy. Also surviving is his sister and her husband, Wanda S. & Henry Proffitt of Galax; and special friends, Edna Cooley and Shirley Richardson. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Snow Hill Baptist Church with the funeral following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ernie Smith, the Rev. Everette Shaw and the Rev. Brian Galyean officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Oldtown Lodge # 68 at the Church. Interment will be Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Sparta, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Snow Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriner' s Hospital for Children, Kazim Temple, 628 West Campbell Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, VA is serving the family. A guestbook is available online at www.vaughanguynn.com.
