Iris Iva Lee Warren Flynt
Apr 18, 1931 - Jan 28, 2026
Iris Iva Lee Warren Flynt, known as Iva and affectionately called "Muh" and "Iris Rose," passed away at the age of 94 on January 28, 2026. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a pillar of strength for her family.
Born on April 18, 1931, in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, she was the second of six children born to Early and Myrtle Warren of Stokesdale. Iva was baptized and was a longtime member of Oak Spring Baptist Church, where her faith was nurtured and sustained throughout her life. She was a graduate of Summerfield High School, Class of 1950.
Iva developed an early interest in health care and dedicated many years of service to Novant Health, formerly Forsyth Hospital, until her retirement. As the steadfast matriarch of her family, she was deeply committed to caring for her children. She worked tirelessly, never placing her own needs or wants above those of her family.
Iva took great pride in her children and found joy in celebrating and sharing their milestones-especially their educational achievements, career accomplishments, and growth into self-sufficient adults rooted in the values she instilled. Witty, sharp, independent, and never one to be underestimated, she enjoyed the simple joys of life-crossword puzzles, word-finder games, using her computer, and a good slice of cheesecake from the Village Tavern Restaurant. She took pride in the care of her yard, flowers, and vegetable garden and delighted in sharing her tomatoes with her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her son, Garry Ray Flynt; her parents, Early and Myrtle Warren; and her sisters, Ruth Geneva Warren and Emma Aurelia Warren Searcy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved dachshund of the home, Iris; her children, Myrna Flynt Farmer of Chicago, Illinois; James Allen Flynt (Vonda) of Stokesdale, North Carolina; Lynn Flynt Williams (Williford) of Cumming, Georgia; and Dr. Sherrie Flynt Wallington of North Bethesda, Maryland; her grandson, James Allen Flynt, Jr., of Stokesdale, North Carolina; her bonus grandson, Lamarr Witherspoon of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her sisters, Ethel Hall of Roanoke, Texas, and Glenda Warren of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her brother, Earl Warren (Katie) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives of the Warren and Frazier families of Stokesdale, North Carolina; the Warren and Randall families of High Point, North Carolina; and the Hudson families of Oakland, California. She is also fondly remembered by her Sawyer Street neighborhood family and a host of special friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care provided to Iva over the years by Dr. Bob Stratta of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Dr. Shahriar Moosavi of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Parklawn Chapel of Memory, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27127.
