J. Bruce Stinson

Mr. J. Bruce Stinson, 78, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Boonville, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville. He was born June 23, 1926, in Yadkin County to Avery Clinton and Ida Hobson Stinson. Mr. Stinson was a retired farmer. He was a longtime member of Charity Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a deacon for many years. Mr. Stinson was presently a member of Oldtown Baptist Church, where he served as an assistant Sunday school teacher. He was a graduate of N.C. State University and attended Wake Forest University and Southeastern Theological Seminary. Mr. Stinson was a delegate to both the N.C. State Southern Baptist Convention as well as the National Southern Baptist Convention. He received the Yadkin County Soil and Water District Conservation Award for his farming methods. Mr. Stinson was known as a good friend and neighbor to all. Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 31 years, Virginia Pace Stinson; and four sisters, Pauline S. Cockerham, Lucille Stinson, Swanee S. Reece and Edith S. Matthews. Surviving are his wife, Mary Poole Stinson of the home; his children, John Bruce (Joni) Stinson Jr. of Red Level, Ala., Suzanne Stinson (Steve) Thomasson of Hamptonville, Melissa Stinson (Bob) Edwards of Delta Junction, Alaska and William Clinton (Laurie) Stinson of Boonville; his stepchildren, Joan (Charles) Watson of King, Glenda Richardson of West Jefferson and Jack (Pat) Poole of Forbush Community; a sister, Nellie Sue Parker of Winter Park, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Ben (Tracy) Thomasson, Elizabeth Thomasson, Laura Hauser, Tom Hauser, James Hauser, Johnny Stinson, Tommy Stinson, Bailey Stinson, Aaron Stinson and Lacy Stinson; and special nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 23, at Charity Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Driver, the Rev. Cecil Wetherholt, Dr. Rick Speas and the Rev. Marion Swann officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Lottie Moon Mission Fund, 1500 Charity Baptist Church Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
