James Goad Obituary

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. James Thomas "Jimmie" Goad, 85, of Mount Airy, husband of Bonnie Smith Goad, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Goad was born in Surry County on Jan. 27, 1919, to the late James Moir and Ada Elizabeth Hawks Goad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, a retired salesman from Spencer's Inc., a member of Grace Moravian Church and a past Master of Renfro Masonic Lodge 691, where he was a member for 52 years. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Smith Goad of the home; a daughter, Judith Goad Duke of Winston-Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Smith and Nanci Jo Goad of Mount Airy; three granddaughters and spouses, Allison and Jeffrey Parrott of Dalton, Ga., Jennifer and Bob Barth of Weehawken, N.J., and Joy and David Lee of Winston-Salem; two great-grandsons, Todd Parrott and Joshua Parrott, both of Dalton, Ga.; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruth and Ed Watt of Macon, Ga., and Susan and Larry Patterson, Jean and Jasper Marion, Mary Good and Faye Goad, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Judy Goad of Cana, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goad was preceded in death by four sisters, Lenora Sumner, Helen Eldridge, Wilma Byrd and Maggie Bolejack; and two brothers, Albert Peters and Bob Peters. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Grace Moravian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Timothy Byerly, with burial in God's Acre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Moravian Church Memorial Fund or Cemetery Fund, 1401 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 4, at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy.
