Betty, Juanita and Children,

I was saddened to hear the news about Joe Earl. Most of you do not know me, but Joe Earl and I were great friends. During his time at Forrest High School. We played sports together, hunted together, rode in his Model A Ford and generally had great times together.

Joe, Tony Holmes and I later were roommates at the University of Tennessee.

He was a truly great man and I will miss him. My wife Jackie and I send our deepest sympathy. We will keep you all in out thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Joey, David, and Catherine, I am so proud of you three as I am sure that your dad, my husband for over 29 years, was as well. Your dad was a good man and loved all of you very much.

I know that you all remembered how he would tell you to "march to the beat of your own drummer" - an excerpt from one of Henry David Thoreau's poems. Each of you heeded his advice as you all are so different; each so very special.

Special thanks to your dad's second wife, Betty, for taking good care of him throughout his illness. For this I will be eternally grateful.

Much Love,

Mom

Please know that we will miss Joe dearly. He was so very generous and supportive to Judy while I was in Vietnam. I know that he will meet and greet me at that "rainbow bridge" and I will be glad to see him. Love, aaf.

Dear Catherine, Chris, Graham and Jacob,
Your father and grandfather was a very handsome man and marine!
I am so sorry to learn of his death. I know that some of your spunk, Catherine, must have come from your Dad and so I believe he enjoyed life to the fullest. I will remember your family in my prayers knowing you will be missing his presence.
