Joyce A. Jones, 88, died peacefully at Beacon Place in Greensboro on October 4, 2024. She was born In Morganton, North Carolina to Louie and Mary Amos. She attended Morganton High School and honed her exemplary bookkeeping skills at King's Business College in Greensboro. Married at age 16, she was the proud mother of two children: Harold Ray "Skip" Waters and Anita Waters (Bain). After her divorce from her first husband, she married Herbert R. Jones, Jr. in 1965. Although they divorced after over 25 years of marriage, they remained close friends and business partners until his death in 2006.

Joyce was known for her attention to detail and her ability to manage financial records whether personally or as part of her employment. She worked over 20 years with her husband at H. R. Jones Tool and Supply and later spent over 10 years with Preston & Geraci Realtors. She was an active member of Mount Pisgah Church in Greensboro and, until her health declined, a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed her time with her family and friends and her smiling face could be found regularly at Sunday School and church, as well as at concerts and plays throughout the Triad. Many organizations benefited from gifts of Joyce's time and resources, both locally and in her hometown of Morganton.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Vivian Murray, and by her grandchildren, Lauren Bain (and husband David Harris) and Evan Bain (and Meagan Norris). She is also survived by her son-in-law, John Bain, and her stepdaughter, Dianne Ammons (and husband Sam), her step-grandchildren Sammy Ammons and Christy Umfleet (and husband Jason) and her step-great-grandchildren Jacob Ammons and Connor Umfleet. She was preceded in death by both her son and daughter and by her brother, Mac Amos.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Pisgah Church on October 19, 2024, at 10:00 am. Memorials may be made to Mount Pisgah Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27455 and it would be especially appreciated by the family if such gifts were designated for hurricane relief efforts.
