Larry Watts Obituary

Larry Watts

May 4, 1947 - Feb 23, 2025

Larry Russell Watts, 77, passed away on February 23, 2025, after a long-fought battle with MDS. He was born on May 4, 1947, to the late Hazel and Vernon Watts.

Larry grew up in Memphis, TN, alongside his brother, Steve Lessell. He attended Treadwell High School before continuing his education at Memphis State University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that allowed him to travel extensively and ultimately led him to discover his love for North Carolina, where he spent most of his life.

Larry found joy in woodworking and cherished family beach vacations. His craftsmanship and love for creating with his hands were a source of pride and fulfillment throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Watts; two sons, Logan Watts (Virginia Krabill) and Christopher Watts; one daughter, Michelle Lloyd (Seth); three grandchildren, Isaac Infante, Ishmael Watts, and Gabriella Watts; and his brother, Steve Lessell (Anne).

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the WG (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs, with special appreciation for Dr. Agnew and the oncology department nurses for their compassionate care.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritans Ministry.
