M. Ashburn Obituary

ASHBURN WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. M. Lorraine Ashburn, 94, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 21, 1914, in DuBois, PA, to the late Thomas J. and Blanche Long. She was raised in DuBois and attended St. Catherine' s Catholic Church and School. She married the late G. Ellis Ashburn, Jr., in 1938 and moved to Forsyth County in the late 1940' s. She had two children, G.E. "Jack" Ashburn and Pamala Ashburn Shugart. She managed the book department for her husband, Ellis, at Ellis Ashburn Stationers from 1958 to 1969. She was active in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in her earlier years, and her interests included symphonic music, the Winston-Salem Garden Club, and nutrition. Surviving are a son, Jack Ashburn of the home; a daughter, Pamala A. (M. W. Bill) Shugart; five grandchildren, Brock Ashburn, Austin Ashburn, Marcela A. McBride, Zachary Shugart, and Teresa Shugart; three great-grandchildren, Lydia and Alice Ashburn and Dylan McBride; a brother, Thomas J. Long of Cut Bank, MT; a nephew, Bob Kline of Houston, TX; and a cousin, Jane Cushman of Montrose, CO. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Ashburn will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Father Brian Cook officiating. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Yadkin County Hospice for their timely and caring service. Memorials may be made to Yadkin County Hospice and the St. Theresa' s Guild of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
