Nancy Bragg Obituary

BRAGG Nancy Neese Bragg, 69, died Thursday, May 1, 2008. She was born June 6, 1938, in Monroe to Dr. Kenneth E. and Gertrude D. Neese. She was the wife of Nicholas Burton Bragg, former executive director of Reynolda House Museum of American Art, of the home. Nancy was a graduate of Salem College, a loving wife and mother having four surviving children, Nicholas Burton Bragg Jr., Christopher Kevin Bragg, Patrick Timothy Bragg and Susan Carolyn Foster. She also had three beautiful granddaughters, Susan Burton "Burtie" Bragg, Taylor Nicole Bragg and Amelia Carolyn Foster. Additional surviving family includes her brother, Kenneth Neese, and wife Ann of Lumberton; and Donna Hill Bragg, wife of Nicholas Jr.; Suzanne McKenzie Bragg, wife of Patrick of Winston-Salem; and Robin Foster, husband of Susan of Raleigh. A memorial service to celebrate Nancy' s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, May 5, at St. Paul' s Episcopal Church, Summit Street, Winston-Salem, with the Rev. John Shields officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Forsyth County Humane Society, Doctors Without Borders or The Samaritan Soup Kitchen. Nancy' s focus throughout her life was her family, friends and a variety of interests ranging from medicine to politics. She worked hard to successfully raise four children. She enjoyed greatly being part of the development of her three granddaughters.

Dear Patrick, Suze, Mr. Bragg, and family,

While I only briefly met Nancy, she immediately made me feel so welcome--like family. I wish I had an opportunity to get to know her better. I will always remember her very fondly.

During my brief stay in Winston-Salem NC, I had the opportunity to interact with most if not all members of the Bragg family and each person touched me in his/her own unique way. I will always treasure a discussion that Nancy and I had about a book she was reading by Chinua Achebe called Things Fall Apart. I will miss her. Our thoughts are with you.

Nick and family,
We are shocked and so sorry to learn of Nancy's death, and unfortunately circumstances will not allow us to be there for the celebration service at the church on Monday. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, as you go through the process of learning to go about life without her. She was such a sweet, caring and loving person and will be surely missed by a great many people.

Nick Burton and Family, Hey this is your old friend Clark wanting you and your family to know you are all in my prayers. I too lost my mother, 20 yrs ago in December, so I know how you feel. I haven't seen your mother in years, but when I did, she was always smiling and beautiful. Remember I'm here for you. Love your good friend, Clark

Dear Nick and Family,
We are so sorry to learn of Nancy's death. When we were all young, raising our children around and about the faculty apartments and nearby homes, Nancy was such a joy with her vivacious spirit and many artistic talents. Dear Nick,

I wish I had had the opportunity to know Nancy better. Through our conversations and letters, she showed such a great generosity of spirit and kindness of heart. She was, to quote Gone With the Wind, a very great lady. They are few and far between in this world today, and she will be missed. As I write this, the good Lord has another angel in his court, to look after you, and be with you always.

Love,

Stephanie
