Nathaniel L. Rumph, Sr.

Dec 6, 1931 - Mar 19, 2025

Nathaniel Leo Rumph, Sr., 93, passed away on March 19, 2025 at his home in Winston-Salem, N.C. Nathaniel L. Rumph, Sr. was born in Fort Valley, Ga., to the late Myles and Bertha P. Rumph on December 6, 1931. He attended Fort Valley State College before enlisting in the US Army. He was honorably discharged having served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He married Cordella Hill Rumph on November 30, 1962 in Greensboro, N.C. Celebrating 60 years of marriage prior to her death on January 21, 2023. He retired from Forsyth County Government after 47 years of service.

In addition to his parents and wife, Nate was preceded in death by his siblings: Charles Postell, Willie L. Rumph, Lilian Rumph, Myles Rumph, Jr. and Lena Rumph.

Nathaniel is survived by his children Brenda Rumph Brown, Nathaniel L "Chip" (Carla) Rumph, II, Nicholas Leon Rumph, Cordi Nadean (Jerry) Powell; siblings James Postell, Lilla Tennyson; grandchildren: Candie Rumph, Constance Rumph, Earnest Brown, III, Corbren Powell, Camille-Macie Rumph, Rhea Rumph, Nathan Rumph, Noah Rumph, Jeremiah Powell, Cierra Powell, and great-grandchild, Alayah Travis-Rumph.

The family of Nathaniel Leo Rumph, Sr. wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Home Loving Care, Inc (special thanks to Rosie Martin) and WellCare Hospice of Bermuda Run for the care provided to our father.

At Mr. Rumph's request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service.

I am so very sad to learn of Nate´s passing. I met him thru the General Services Dept of Forsyth County. When Nate retired I became the manager of Central Services, the division he managed and grew for years! Very much loved and respected. Prayers and condolences to his family and friends
