It is with immense sadness that the family of Patricia "Patty" Fitzgerald Poole announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Monday, June 30. She was only 66 years old. She was born on May 28, 1959, the daughter of Reverend Ernest Fitzgerald and Frances Perry Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.

Patty is survived by her loving husband, Charles, of 38 years; her pride and joy her daughters, Elizabeth (Aaron) and Amy (Bryce). The light of her life were her grandchildren, Jones and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother James "Jimmy" Boyd Fitzgerald.

Patty was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and Guilford College. She received a master's degree in education at UNC Greensboro, and graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she met the love of her life.

She spent the majority of her legal career at Womble Bond Dickinson, her impact was made not only through her hard work and dedication, but even more profoundly through the lifelong friendships she made. Her smile and joy were contagious, leaving a warm and lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Patty lived and loved vibrantly. She never met a stranger and became like a second mom to so many. Full of life, always in on the joke to make sure everyone was laughing and having a good time. She took the time to truly know and see everyone she met.

She was bright, warm, brilliant, and strong, a guiding force and a safe harbor for her family. She was happiest at the beach with her family, at Disney, or planning her next trip. Above all, she gave so much of herself to her children and her grandchildren.

There was nothing she loved more than being Lolly to Jones and Charlie. She cherished picking Jones up from school and playing Candy Land with him. Charlie affectionately called her "Peepie" because she always played that game with him, it was a special bond.

Although Patty's physical presence is no longer with us, her light shines on, in the many friends she cherished, in her greatest pride, her children, and most brightly in her grandchildren. Though their time with her was far too short, she left them with a lasting legacy of love and joy.

As we learn to live with the vast hole in our hearts and lives, we thank God for the life of Patricia Anne Fitzgerald Poole.

A service celebrating her life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, N.C., at 2 p.m., on Monday, July 7th, with visitation with the family to follow the service.
