Perry Simos Obituary

SIMOS Mr. Perry Paul Simos, 54, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at his home in Winston-Salem. For those of you who know the Simos name, you think of great barbecue and ice cold beer. And for those of you who knew Perry, you knew a genuinely great and thoughtful person. Perry was born April 12, 1953, in Winston-Salem, where he grew up, and graduated from Mount Tabor High School. He then furthered his education in Florida receiving a degree in restaurant and hotel management. Perry was a very warm-hearted person and cared about everyone around him. He could never stop smiling and could keep you laughing for hours on end. He had the kind of personality that would make your worst day always a little brighter. He was hard working and a wonderful family man. He dedicated his life to his family, work and his customers. If he could have anything in the world, he would want his family to be happy and for everyone to remember the great man he was and all the accomplishments in his lifetime. The family wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. May God bless and be with him and everyone alike. Perry is survived by two sons, Paul Pericles Simos and Christopher Michael Simos. Other family members surviving include his parents, Paul and Tina Simos; his brother, Terry, and wife Marie Simos; along with niece and nephew Christina and Matthew Simos; and his grandchildren, Victoria Simos and Nickolas Simos. Great thanks to Sophia Aslanis for all the care and support given to the family. The family will receive friends from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Greek Orthodox Church, with the memorial service to follow at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Greek Orthodox Church, with Father Dennis and Father George officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Online condolences may be made at www.salemfh.com.

I have only known Perry for the past four years, since Christopher and I started dating. Not until the last couple of years did we become very close. I've grown to love the Simos family and they have always treated me as though I was a part of the family. Chris and I were with Perry through the hard times in the hospital last year and we grew ever closer. After he got better we spent a lot of time together, the three of us. Sometimes I would have a bad day and I would call him and he could just make me laugh. He taught me many things aswell. I wish I would have known him longer but I have millions of memories just in this short period of time that will always stay in my heart. I loved him like a dad and I'm really going to miss him. What I'm going to miss the most is his smile that could light up the room, his advice, and all the kind words that sincerely came from his heart. I know he is going to live in my heart but I wish he could be around for all the memories yet to come. Perry was truly one of the best people in my life and I feel really blessed for that. He is going to be missed by everyone. My sympathy goes out to the family and we will all get through this together. I love you guys and I love you Perry. God bless.

From Chris Simos:
You all know my dad as the great person that he was, but I remember the best dad and friend whom ever walk the earth. He always made me smile and that is going to be what I miss the most. Those late night phone calls just to say that he loved me and the path to victory that he always lead me to. Ever since I can remember my dad has always been there right next to me to guide me down the right path but now he is gone. My favorite cook, best friend, and leader. But now he is gone. I ask myself what to do... but still I find anwsers... because I know now I won't need that phone call every night because we can talk whenever we would like to. He can hold my hand, guide me, push me to greatness even better now then before. My father left great memories and a great name. We want to thank everyone that has sent cards/e-mails, flowers and even given hugs of support. We want to also thank the WSPD for the escort to the cemetary. It was fit for a king and that is what he was. God bess you all. And dad, cook them the best damn pig they've ever had. You're in my dreams. I love you!!

To All The Simos Family:
I am very saddened to hear about Perry. Even though it has been many years since I had seen him, I will always remember what a pleasant person he was. I worked for Perry many, many years ago, and my husband Rick used to deliver beer to his resturant before he passed away. My prayers are with you and may God comfort you in this time of need.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Perry's passing.. I knew him since 9th grade and though we lost touch over the years, I remember him as a kind, generous person, who always had a smile and a laugh. He made you feel special, when it was Perry who was the special one. After graduation, whenever we would get back to Winston for a Wake homecoming, we would go to Simos, and Perry always treated everyone as a friend.I missed seeing him at the Mt.Tabor reunion, but I know we will all see each other again one day. My condolences to his family and friends.God Bless.

Dear Chris,
Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to you and your family. We have both lost both of our parents to death and we know how it feels. You never stop missing them, but over time you will be able to look at pictures and smile and laugh instead of cry. Even though we did not know your dad, we can see that he raised a fine son - always be a tribute to his memory. God give you his peace and comfort through the difficult days ahead.

To All The Simos Family -

I have so many special memories of good food and fellowship at your restaurant. Perry was a kind and caring individual who "always" had a smile and something to say that made you laugh or brightened your day. The world would be a much better place if more people had his positive attitude and kind nature. He will be missed by many.
May our Heavenly Father, who now holds Perry in His arms, also enfold you with His Comfort & Peace as you begin your healing journey.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this sad and difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Perry's passing. My parents went to High School with his dad and we lived across the street from the Simos family for a while. We spent a lot of time at the restaurant when I was a kid. Perry was a childhood friend and when I ran into him occasionally as an adult, he would greet me as a best friend. My daughter graduated high school the same year as his son. The Simos family have always been an example to me as truly friendly and chairitable folks. I will always cherish growing up knowing Perry.

To the Simos Family, Perry was such a sweet young man. We both attended Mount Tabor, and like Perry I also did not make the reunion. Perry was kind to me when I was sad or at wits end as a teen. After marriage/graduation I unfortunately lost all contact will all my class mates. I still see him in my mind as a young teen with so much life in him. It is so hard to think that he is gone at so young an age. But you must remember that Perry is not truly gone...only that he passed through the door that leads to Heaven and once again is a young man full of life with perfect health. He is alive and well and looking forward to the day when we will all be reunited once again. He is not dead, merely on a new and greater adventure with Jesus. My prayers and love as well as my daughters are with you all in this time of sorrow and grief.

Winston-Salem Police Officer

July 10, 2007

When I heard about Perry, I just couldn't believe it. Being a police officer in Winston-Salem, and especially if you had the good fortune to work the north side of town...you grew to know and love the Simos family...you automatically became part of their family...They took care of us.

I remember one day, it was December 23rd, about 5pm, several years ago. It was cold...freezing rain was falling. Myself and a couple of my police buddies were looking for some place to eat dinner. Working the north side, we normally migrated to Simos Restaurant for some good food and good fellowship. I was so hungry...and there was nothing else open...eveything was closed due to the bad weather. When we got there, we found that Simos had closed early, too, also because of the weather. We sat there in the parking lot deciding what convenience store we were going to to get a drink and a snack to take away the hunger pangs. While we were sitting there, Perry came out the door of the restaurant. We told him we were leaving...he asked why. We said, "You're closed." He said, "Not for you all." He invited us in and served us all some of that famous Simos Bar-B-Que, some sweet tea and some chips....and didn't charge us a dime. Now, he didn't have to do that. He could have let us just go on about our business, but he didn't. He opened his doors and his heart and gave some cold hungry police officers some food. That's the way Perry was....and that's how I will remember him...A good man, with a giving spirt....But then again, so is the rest of the Simos Family....just good people...with big hearts.

To Paul, Mamma Simos, Terry and the rest of the family, I think I speak for all the officers in Winston-Salem who had the priviledge and honor of knowing you all and Perry....our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. I feel like I have lost one of my own family members.

Rest in peace, Perry.

Beloved Simos Family,

We are truly heartbroken at the loss of Perry. He was a great person, wonderful family man, and a true friend to us. We will NEVER forget his laugh and his ability to make us smile. The one thing that we will always remember was the way he never ended a conversation, whether it be by phone, in person or email that he didn't tell us he loved us. He touched us both in so many ways that we will never forget. He is loved and missed beyond words. We love you all and want you to know during your time of grief, Perry talked about you all the time and loved you all more than any man could love his family (Lucy too) He will live in our hearts forever.
