Phillip Stallings Obituary

Phillip "Mike" Michael Stallings

Mar 5, 1936 - Jan 8, 2025

Mike Stallings passed away peacefully following years of living with Alzheimer's Disease. His final years were spent in the care of the wonderful, caring staff in the Westerly and Salem Square Neighborhoods at Salemtowne in Winston-Salem. Mike is survived by his son and daughter, Jeffrey Stallings (Pamela) and Julie Stallings as well as his beloved dog, Maggie. Mike was blessed with three grandchildren, Cameron Stallings (Elizabeth), Stephanie Stallings and Bailey Inabinet; and three great-grandchildren, Unika Stallings, Maya Angileri and Shiloh Stallings (all surviving). Mike was the son of Thomas D. Stallings and Marjorie Helms Mears. Uncle Norman Stallings provided greatly to his character and well-being. There are also numerous nephews, nieces and of course friends who miss him greatly.

After honorably serving his country in the US Navy, Mike received a physics degree from Guilford College. He put this degree to good use working as an engineer for Western Electric, (which became AT&T and then Lucent Technologies and then Celestica) while raising two children with wife, Shirley, deceased, Mike was fortunate to meet and marry the next love of his life, Gail Clendaniel Collins (deceased) and enjoyed many happy years with her by his side.

Mike loved life and everything about it, except cold weather and cold water.

He was a fantastic father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his friends as much as his family and he had truly remarkable ones. He was a boater, traveler, and automobile buff; he loved music, especially barber shop and sang with the chorus for years. But most of all he loved people - meeting every person – the clerk at the store, the banker, the UPS guy, the mail person - with a smile, perhaps a hug – there were no strangers in his life. Mike loved to entertain and was always the most gracious host, lake venues provided the perfect backdrop for most of these events throughout the years; Badin, Norman, Grand Lake of the Cherokees and High Rock.

There will be a service at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of life on February 15, 2025 in the Amos Room on the 2nd floor of the Babcock Healthcare Center at Salemtowne in Winston-Salem. Use the Indiana Road Gate and ask for directions. Please join us as we remember our Mikey with joy and happy memories.

Jeff and Pam,
I don't think I met your Dad but as soon as I saw his picture I saw you too. He is at peace now and I know you will miss him. Love you both.
