Rex Cockerham Obituary

ELKIN - Mr. Rex Richard Cockerham, 69, of Ivy Circle passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Cockerham was born March 6, 1933, in Surry County to James Arlie “Buck” and Vertie Lenoir Tally Cockerham. Mr. Cockerham retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co., where he was a computer programmer. He was a member of Elkin First United Methodist Church. Mr. Cockerham was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Cockerham. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Emaline H. Cockerham of the home, and a daughter and her husband, Darlena Lenoir and Alan Goodwin of Warwick, R.I. He is also survived by a nephew, Jefferey Eldridge and his wife Lesa Eldridge and their daughter Jessica Rae Eldridge, who is a very special great-niece. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Norma Goodman and her husband Wilburn Goodman of Sparta and five aunts, Connie T. Darnell, Fannie Layell, Violet Smith, Elsie Welborn, all of Elkin, and Ennis Nixon of Jonesville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Elkin First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sanford Giles. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Elkin First United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Surry/Yadkin County. The True Strength of a Man is His Gentleness.”
