Richard Reynolds Obituary

Reynolds, Richard Joseph

October 31, 1948 - November 19, 2021

Richard Joseph Reynolds, 73, of Winston-Salem, known to all as Dick, died at home November 19, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born October 31, 1948, in Durham, NC, to the late William Joseph Reynolds and Joyce Hinson Reynolds, who survives. Dick is also survived by his wife of 53 years, Nina Ellis Reynolds, who was Dick's college sweetheart, as well as three sons, William Thera Reynolds and wife Kristina, Richard Joseph Reynolds III and wife Berkley, and Ryan Andrew Reynolds and wife Sarah, all of Winston-Salem. Dick especially enjoyed being Papa to his seven grandchildren, Katie, Riley, Finn, Lucy, Jake, Vanessa, and Jack.

Dick was a 1970 graduate of North Carolina State University School of Engineering. He began his career as a nuclear engineer for the US Navy in Charleston, SC. He also worked as an engineer for Corning Glass Works. After several relocations with Corning, Dick decided to return to North Carolina, establishing his own businesses - Equitable Home Inspections and Richard J. Reynolds, PE, PA. Dick and Nina had many wonderful adventures traveling the world, playing bridge, and made many fantastic memories with family beach trips. Dick was an avid golfer who especially enjoyed playing with his three sons at Tanglewood. Dick also enjoyed boating, beginning with sailboats, catamarans and jet skis before graduating to captaining a Grady White to catch the big fish.

Whatever Dick did, he did so heartily and grabbed life with gusto, always ready for the next adventure. "Let's give it a whirl."

Dick's funeral service will be Tuesday, November 23 at 2 p.m. at St Clement's Episcopal Church, 3600 Harper Rd, Clemmons, NC. Rev Jamie Edwards and Rev Frances Cox will be officiating. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. before the service. Masks will be required inside the church. A private interment will follow the service. Memorial donations may be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

My sincere condolences to the Reynolds family at this sad time. I had the pleasure of meeting Dick and Nina when I started cleaning their house. Dick always greeted me with a friendly welcome. We would always chat awhile and he was always their to fix or find a lost supply. I had cut my hand and he quickly bandaged me right up. Dick is also famous for baking his delicious cookies..Dick and Nina were like two peas in a pod. I will miss him and especially seeing them together. He truly was a fine man. I am so grateful to have known him.
