Shirley Dennis Obituary

DENNIS MOCKSVILLE - Shirley M. Dennis, age 81, passed away peacefully at her daughter' s home in Mocksville, NC, on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Shirley resided at Brighton Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC for the past year. She was formerly a resident of Royal Woods in Fort Myers, FL for twelve years prior to moving to North Carolina in 2008 to be near her daughter and son. Shirley was born September 12, 1927 to the late Wesley and Elma Miller in Joliet, IL and lived there most of her life. Shirley was the loving and proud mother of Gretchen (John) Kepich of Mocksville, NC and Jay (Anna) Dennis of Winchester, VA; grandmother of Allisyn Wood, Georgia and Carmen Dennis; great-grandmother of Ariel and Quinn Wood; and aunt of Rachael Perez and Wesley Barz. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Jay Dee Dennis; and sister, Dorothy Barz of Plainfield, IL. Shirley wishes to express her heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors in North Carolina, Florida and Illinois for good times, friendship and support. Shirley and Jay loved to travel, had visited almost every state, and made a most memorable trip to Alaska by ferry with a drive home to Illinois. She had been an active member of the Royal Woods Home Owners Association, and a member of both the Cypress Lake and First Presbyterian Churches of Fort Myers and Joliet. She was a homemaker and a long-time employee of the Union National Bank and Trust Company in Joliet. Memorials may be made to your local Hospice chapter in Shirley' s memory. Shirley had requested cremation and the family will be holding a private Memorial Service at a later date.
