August 1, 1940 - May 22, 2023

Shirley Ann Austin Tuttle, aged 82, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, in Cabarrus County, N.C. Shirley was born on August 1, 1940, to Howard Marvin Austin and Opal Lee Parker Austin. She was married to Ronald Edward Tuttle Sr, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her father, Howard Marvin Austin, her mother, Opal Lee Parker Austin, and her brother, Eugene Rodney Austin.

Shirley is survived by her son, Ronald Edward (Eddie) Tuttle Jr., her daughter, Ann Madeline Tuttle Mathis, her grandsons, Austyn Zachary Tuttle, Nathaniel Zachary Tuttle and Taylor Patrick Mathis, her granddaughter, Madeline (Maddie) Sharron Mathis, her daughter in law, Jennifer Lee Tuttle (Wife of Eddie), her granddaughter in law, Ansley Dodson Tuttle (Wife of Austyn), great-granddaughter, Hayven Tuttle, her great-grandson, Cole Tuttle, her sister, Peggy Jo Furches, and her brother, Michael Howard Austin.

Shirley attended Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., and went on to study at Salem College, Winston-Salem State University, and Wake Forest. She worked as a School Counselor for most of her career.

Shirley was a lifelong learner, who was passionate about education.

In her personal life, Shirley was an accomplished artist, an avid reader, and a skilled flower arranger and judge. She found solace and joy in her hobbies, and her family and friends will always remember her for her creativity and the beauty she brought into their lives.

A private ceremony will be held later this fall to celebrate Shirley's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc., P.O. Box 33520, Raleigh, NC 27636-3520

Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her friendly and talkative personality, as well as her love for reading and art. She will be remembered by all who knew her.
